Chuting the Blogosphere

Sunday 25.10.09
A blog about blogging. Is that a bit of a case of head up my own chimney? If you think so, you might want to skip this one. It occurred to me today how important blogging has become to me over the last few months. I now subscribe to so many that if I check every hour, there's always a new one from some corner of the world. Scraps of place and time delivered to my lap in Coventry, each one welcome.

I should admit here and now that I've been inspired to write about blogging because the enviably talented Melanie Gray Augustin over here http://kimonoreincarnate.blogspot.com/ is having a giveaway, and selfish Dee wants to win. Melanie makes beautiful things out of Japanese fabric and paper, and sells things online if you would like to check her out.

Another of the blogs I read organises a what's hot and what's not on Wednesdays. I know it's not even Monday, but here goes:

What's hot:

Richard Herring, my absolute favorite comedian is so busy he must have one of those A4 two pages to a day diaries to write it all down in. Luckily, (or maybe not luckily for him) a lot of his work can be got in the form of free downloads. His blog inspired me to write mine, and he has blogged for so long, it took me three months to read it all. It's here http://www.richardherring.com/

Oscar Wilde; I've been reading The Picture Of Dorian Gray thanks to some prompting from Hollywood although I don't plan to see the film. I had forgotten how much I liked his writing, I feel 24 when I read it.

Chris Wood; I've been following his music for some time, but just lately he had picked up some awards and got a bit more of a following. I just downloaded his new compilation album Albion An Anthology but my favorite thing that can't be bought is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eJiZutTZMk

What's Not:

The clocks have changed and it feels like six hours of daylight have been lost all at once. No sign of a big dip in mood yet, but I'm gripping tight in anticipation. The picture taken of the green space outside out house is by H. She's made it look way too nice.

Scary scary maths is happening with my college work and it's testing time soon. Oh, the shame of it.

With the increasing presence of the far right and the poor posties on strike, I'm wanting a live fix of my favorite singer Billy Bragg. He's touring everywhere but here for the rest of the year. Ah well, I can't say I haven't got the CD's.
