Hmm, lost the blogging habit again. I have no excuse for that as I've been quite happy and energetic. At the weekend, Nick cleared out the disgraceful back garden, it is all lovely now and if it was summer, I would be able to sit out in it. It isn't summer any more though, although the sun shines, the breezes are chill.
I've been sewing again. The patchwork that is being worked the traditional way around papers has come out. I never named it, but I'm calling it 'Kite Stars' now. I'm gratified that Nina has taken a fancy to it. If I can finish it I will give it to her to take to college. She'll look after it, she's kept all of the little things I've made for her over the years, including the Miffi cross stitched cushion that was the most boring sewing project ever, having only two colours. I used to make things for Nina's friends too. I wonder if they still have them.
I worked for a year on and off on kite stars before becoming disillusioned with the colour scheme (a random selection of batiks on a royal blue background). Then, it got put away for two years. Now, I think it is more or less as I intended although if I started again, I would go with navy blue background and an even wider range of batiks. Nick was laughing at me cutting the shapes out of old envelopes, but this is the traditional way of working, and very effective. the weight of the paper is somehow just right, although it is fiddly to be drawing around the shapes, and I'm hampered because I lost my original template, the replacement one is not quite right and therefore I have to fiddle the stitching a bit. Sadly, I've no idea where I got the pattern (it isn't mine), I remember seeing it as a double bed quilt made up in small florals on plain cream. My one was going to be a single bed quilt, but I think will only make it to a lap sized square because I'm running out of the blue background fabric. oh dear, what a bodge, no wonder I gave it up for a while.
In line with the stitching, I'm trying to be a better Mummy. I've gone back to making H packed lunches and the house has been in quite a good state. I've been cooking with real veg too. All happy. All good...
