I stayed in bed again today, reading books and hiding from the kids who had stayed in their pj's in front of the TV until at 1.30 I decided that avoiding the kids was one thing, but avoiding the shower was a whole other smell of fish.
Once up, I was pretty soon out. I got my notebook out at McDonalds over drink (nb: no burger, the diet continues) and wrote for an hour and a half. Although I hadn't planned what I wanted to say, it came relatively easy. I pushed on to Sainsburys, I got some sweat pants to go to the gym with. I somehow also got some new towels too.
I wanted to get some more done, so I had a cup of tea at the cafe and continued to write until the staff put the chairs on the tables. During that time, I saw a woman with girl. The woman took half of the girl's food, then instructed the girl all through her meal, wiping her mouth and fingers, telling her not to pick up two chips at once. On and on she went, not engaging in any conversation that might have remotely warmed the spirit. The girl (about twelve years old)didn't seem messy or disruptive to me, although she was unusually unquestioning of the rudeness of the woman. I would long since have told her to shut her meano face. Their one sided conversation was explicable because the girl had learning disabilities. It wasn't justifiable though.
Nick has been bothered by troubles at work. He is in fine spirits in spite of it all, as though, in a reversal of the last couple of months, he has vented his anger, worry and frustration at work and brought his cheery loving side home to me. We've been getting on great, and got a Chinese food takeaway for tea, just the two of us as the kids were out. He has lost quite a bit of weight since Nina adjusted our diet for us, probably more than Nina or myself. I hope we can all stay with it.
This evening, by accident, I am watching Tim Minchin's live act. I wasn't that struck until he sang a song which mostly went 'Take canvas bags to the supermarket'. I do think it's pretty amazing, not exactly funny in itself, but a compellingly odd not quite parody of campaigning songs like Feed the World. I was glad to have seen it.
