(student) Nurse!

I am back to University. It is nineteen years since I got my first degree and I’m doing it all over again. It’s all different of course, and I am different too. I’ve spent some time thinking about whether continuing with the blog is a good idea, and in particular if keeping an honest blog from which I can be identified is the right thing. The nursing profession is particular about confidentiality and what I can only describe as seemly behaviour. When the tutor said that we need to give up biting our nails and that she never wanted to hear us swear in public, I knew I was in trouble. F**k me if they’re not two of my favourite things.

See, I only just got my library card and things are already starting to look dicey (talking of the library, I was asked to leave it within five minutes of setting foot, it appears that talking is allowed as long as it’s not on the phone). Anyway, I’ve read the rules and decided that it’s business as usual, I would never talk about an identifiable service user anyway, which just leaves staff and fellow students to worry about. Keeping this blog is going to help me to be all angelic, just like a proper nurse.

When you think of a nurse, who do you think of? I think Hattie Jacques in Carry on Doctor. From now on, when you think of a student nurse, you may think of me. Student Mental Health Nurse, that is. I’m getting nursing shoes and a fob watch and everything. It’s going to be A Journey. But not like Tony Blair’s.
