Saturday 14.2.09

Valentines Day. Wow, terrific, a day that makes me feel good. Whatever shit I've got myself in to during the course of my life, I did make the right choice of husband. He proved it today with a lie in followed by a trip to the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. We held hands and talked. I even told him that I bought the camera. I never could keep a secret from him. He just laughed and was, genuinely, fabulous.

The best thing at the museum was a small exhibition of Chinese porcelain bequeathed by a diplomat husband and wife with the commentary provided by Chinese community groups from Birmingham. I especially liked a vase decorated with a peach tree on the front and two little bats flying on the back. The commentary said they represented good luck. Perhaps due to today's date, we found them rather romantic.

Walking down the main street, we came across a group of twenty or more young people. They were dressed in fun costume, playing pop music and dancing. It all looked fun and up beat. We initially thought it was rag week, but it transpired that they were protesting against Scientology. Truly strange.

Spent the evening watching DVDs of old Frank Skinner live shows. I never realised how good he was (and is), but I missed the 90's what with the children and work . I'm on my second read of his autobiography, enjoying it more and more.

Nick bought me Thorntons Continental chocolates, which are my favorites. In spite of explicit instructions to get the original selection, he got all milk chocolate. Still, its a lot better than the dark chocolate selection last year, and one year the disappointment that was the tropical fruit special. Thank you darling. I got you a packet of jelly beans and let you order a book from Amazon. Romance, alive and well in 2009.
